The Billerica track star had a huge following come out strong to push her to the Twitter vote victory.
We have had a lot of fun with weekly poll votes in covering MVC football. So as got MVC Sports Today ready and prepared to cover all of the league’s sports, we wanted to give love to the fall sports athletes we did not fully cover (as the site is officially launching in time to begin covering the 2019-20 MVC winter sports season).
So, we put up all of the league’s official MVP winners in their season-ending awards lists and combined that with a number of “wild card” stars from the fall to pit 30 athletes across the MVC in our non-football fall sports MVP vote.
Just as she has throughout her career at Billerica Memorial High School, track star Nicole Anderson outpaced all her competitors to be crowned our MVC Sports Today Non-Football Fall MVP.
Anderson, who is committed to run for Vanderbilt in the SEC this fall, took the time to talk with me over the weekend. We covered her career, her future and her coach potato favorites in her slim down time moments among many topics in a wide-spanning interview.
A huge thanks to Billerica athletic director John Magliozzi for helping to set up the interview.
Here is how the full votes shook out.
The first round had eight heats and, as we were just beginning the site, a varying number of votes. Anderson dominated her first vote in a limited sample size (just 79 total votes).
From there, we moved on to the semifinals and Anderson showed that even as the vote numbers exploded, she could still be the pace setter:
And then, Anderson put away the title in the final round of voting:
A huge thank you to the more than 3,000 voters who casted votes and showed appreciation for the MVC’s top student athletes.
